Ann Coulter is a frekin' nut job.
Mood:  energetic
Topic: Politics

Ann Coulter is a freakin' nut job.

I just read Godless, the Church of Liberalism by Ann Coulter. (Yes, I read both left and right wing books, but reading Al Franken or Molly Ivins is a lot more fun then reading O'Reilly, Hannity, or Coulter. I do it anyway, so I see both sides of the issue) I will write about O'Reilly's Culture Warrior later.

I am not going to go into the crazy mean spirited attacks she made against the Jersey Moms (Widows of men killed in 9/11 who are against the war in Iraq). Everyone already knows about that and it was covered to death when the book first came out.

I won't get into how she thinks all liberals want to do is kill people, or tax them to death. (Although her logic is very faulty, apparently we want to kill everyone)

What I want to talk about are her views on science. Among the crazy claims in the book is that women are genetically unable to understand math and science. Some study said so and she accepts it as fact. She then goes on for three chapters about how liberals have science all wrong. How creationism and intellignet design are fact and evolution is fiction, how silicone implants never caused sickness and how stem cell research could never help anyone. (These are actually her views)

So my question is simple. If women are not good at science then how can any sane person trust her conclusions. I mean she is a woman. At least I think she is.

Dear Republican Friends
Mood:  happy
Topic: Politics
Now that the Democrats will hold congress I just wanted to reassure you on a few points.

1) We will not be putting Sadam back in power, nor will we go soft on the war on terrorism and even though you got us into the war in Iraq by lying to us, we will not cut and run. We might even catch or kill Osama (you remeber him don't you, the guy we actually should be after)

2) There will not be naked gays dancing in the streets in front of your house. I know you are threatened by gay people and don't want them to get married becasue it might start "raining men". It wont happen. Unless you already live in a neighborhood where gay people are dancing the the street, then things will probably stay the same.

3) Taxes might go up... but only on the rich people who should be paying more anyway. 90% of us will not see our taxes change at all. What this means to most of us is an increase in services (Maybe they will even fund the no child left behind act)

4) There will not be free abortions on demand. There wont be forced abortions. There wont be door to door abortions. I promise.

5) There may be a universal health care system and an increase in the minimum wage. We may get our right of Habeus Corpus back and we may be treated like citizens in our own country again... these are good things.

Hang in there, if we fuck it up as bad as you did you will be back in power before you know it. (We wont though)

Live on Air America Radio regarding Clinton slapping down Chris Wallace on Fox Sunday!
Mood:  happy
Topic: Politics

I ws on the Randi Rhodes show today responding to President Clinton slapping down Mike Wallace on Fox Sunday.

I was going to post a link to the video of Clinton's interview on You Tube, but Fox already made them remove it. If you saw the interview you know Clinton did a hell of a job, but Fox is already trying to spin it as an ex-president out of control.

Anyway, Air America added my conversation to there highlights page. Click here to here it.

Air America is an important radio station. It brings you the truth about what is really going on in our currently very troubled world. You can listen to Air America live anytime by clicking here.

Worst President Ever
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Politics
I live in Midland Texas... the hometown of the worst president in American History. Of course the sign that welcomes you to Midland doesn't say that. It just says Hometown of President George W. Bush... people are still proud of him here. Of course this is an oil town. I personally think the man should be tried for treason.

Rolling Stone just printed a great story about Bush being the Worst President Ever. But on the upside they did call him the best president since Bill Clinton. He is of course the only president since Bill Clinton.

Confidence
Mood:  irritated
Topic: Politics
"I understand how some Americans have had their confidence shaken," President Bush said in a speech today...

I want you to know Mr. President that I have not had my confidence in you shaken at all by the quagmire and killing in Iraq.

Even though we have been there for four years now.

Even though many soldiers have lost their lives for the lie about WMDs.

Even though it has been two and a half years since you said the insurgency was dying down.

Even though the stooges at FOX news are still trying to link Iraq to al-Qaida.

Even though you wont admit that Iraq is a country is in civil war.

Even though you claim things are better there without a shred of proof.

Even through out all of that my confidence is not shaken.

I never had any confidence in you to start with!

Rosa Parks
Mood:  quizzical
Topic: Politics
Now that Rosa Parks is not around to defend herself anymore (she died Monday 10/24/2005 at the ripe old age of 92) I predict it will be a very short time until both political parties start to take her name in vain.

I hope they won't, but I know they both will.

Sorry I never finsihed my thoughts about Ben Stein's lecture, but I am not a proffessional blogger. I have a real job and real life... besides, no one reads this anyway.

I will say this last thing about him though, he sures know how to kiss butt and misquote Tony Blair.

Ben Stein and the Hollywood Stars
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Politics
During his lecture (see yesterday's post if you don't know what I am talking about) Ben Stein told us who he thought the real stars are.

Not those Hollywood left wingers who get paid millions for movies, but rather the soldiers and policemen, and those who do good things for others. According to Ben Stein, those are the real stars.

I see the point Ben, but, I have to disagree. Alec Baldwin and Barbara Streisand are indeed stars. Sean Penn and Tim Robbins and all the rest of the liberals you don't like are stars. Al Franken, who you love, but don't like, is a star. We pay money to see them. They have fame and fortune, that makes them stars.

You're a star too Ben. We listen to you too. Would the auditorium have been half as full if not for "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and "Win Ben Stein's Money"? Which of your titles garnered the most applause last night, speech writer, lawyer or game show host?

What you, and most of those other stars are not, is heroes. There is a difference. The soldiers, the cops, the red cross workers, individuals who help others in need are heroes.

Some people like Harrison Ford (who flew his personal helicopter in dangerous situations to help people in the past) and Sean Penn (who got a boat and rescued Katrina survivors) are both.

You seem to think that the stars (along with the media) should not be voicing their opinions at a time like this, while all the while you are voicing yours.

What makes it okay for you to voice your opinion and not them?

Everyone has the right and the duty to voice their opinions. That is what makes this country great.

It is not up to you, me or anyone else to tell someone to be quiet. It is what we do with the ideas that matter.

Everyone must embrace with reason the ideals they choose to accept. I don't agree with a star because they are a star. But, their voices are louder and have a better chance of being heard, and whether I agree or disagree I am glad that they use those voices.

Ben Stein in Midland Texas
Mood:  caffeinated

"Dissent is the highest form of patriotism" - Thomas Jefferson

Ben Stein is a funny guy. I like him. So, when a friend invited me to attend his lecture tonight, I went. I know Ben's politics, but I try to keep an open mind. I also know that this being George Bush's hometown and a bastion of right wing ideology that most of the people in attendance would eat up everything he said in wide eyed wonder.

I did really enjoy the lecture and I did agree with him on several things. I plan to write about the experience for several days.

But for now...

He came down pretty hard on the press and I agree, sometimes they deserve it. News has become a sensationalist (not liberal as some claim, just sensationalistic) business. However, saying that the press should not ask questions when something goes wrong is ridiculous.

"No government ought to be without censors; and where the press is free no one ever will." - Thomas Jefferson

Asking questions does not in any way take away from helping others. The press is there to point fingers. I find it very funny that the Republican Party and Barry Bonds are both using the same spurious logic to protect themselves from hard questions.

In Barry's case of course it's about steroids. He thinks that the whole congressional investigation should be dropped because of the hurricane. He talks about people losing their lives as if stopping the investigations will save some of them. He does this right before going to bat. If he really cared why isn't he in the trenches helping? Because he has a job to do.

The right is hiding behind the same cry. Now is not the time to point fingers. Ben hit that point a couple times tonight. I have to disagree. As long as we are doing everything we can to help the victims we can do both.

Ben talked about how brave Bush was to take responsibility especially when it was incompetent people under him that was the real problem. Well, sorry Ben, Bush did not immediately take responsibility, he disseminated partisan rhetoric for days before stepping up to the plate. And as far as the incompetence under him, he is the one who appointed someone with no disaster experience to the head of FEMA. He is also the one who couldn't be bothered to leave his vacation for three days after the hurricane hit.

We all know Bush loves his vacations, he has taken more then any other president.

"Reason and free inquiry are the only effectual agents against error." - Thomas Jefferson

I was glad to hear that you love Al Frankin, even though you don't like him. I can not find any evidence of that quote you gave from Tony Blair, but I'll talk more about that later.

A faith in God no storm could shake....
Mood:  incredulous
Topic: Politics
That's what Dubya said in his address tonight...."A faith in God no storm could shake."

Who let Katrina happen in the first place? What diety would create this maelstrom while an incompetent boob with no disaster experience was in charge of the federal disaster response?

Who knew that this would hurt your approval ratings?

God!
